2009 ASCI District Spelling Bee Competition

 

This January, over 90 students from Christian schools around the city came together to compete in the ACSI District Spelling Bee hosted by Casas Christian School.   Our congratulations to the following spellers:

Congratulations to first place finishers Sophie Mosher (2^nd grade), Cristi-Ana Floress (3^rd grade) and Tara Murphy (4^th grade), and Jack Martin (5th grade) who placed second in his round.  Congratulations also to Courtenay Gleason (6^th grade) who placed first as did Jenna Cray (7th grade).  Ashley Harper (8^th grade) placed third and Rachel Valentine (8^th grade) placed second.  All of the top two finishers from fifth to eighth grade competed in the final round.   Congratulations to Rachael Valentine and Jack Martin who placed fourth and second respectively.  Both are now eligible to compete in the ACSI Regional Spelling Bee in Colorado in February. 

Mrs. Valerie Edwards, high school librarian and coordinator of the contestants, extends a very special thanks to the nine judges who volunteered their time: Martha Vance, Susan Ackerley, Melinda Carter, Sherry McMillen, Candy Huelle, Jacqueline Weber, Susan Madison, Linda Janning and Belinda Reyna for giving of themselves and their Saturday (early) morning, "We could not have done it without you.  Blessings!"
